Survey results from an industry survey reveal changes in mindset and expectations among travelers in 2019. For example, people are spending more time researching and booking travel and boarding planes are staying longer.

But their getting to the airport is taking longer as well — by up to 40 minutes.

The findings are from the 2019 Passbook report from US-based travel search and planning firm Phocuswright

It reports a rise in the number of flight delays, with some airlines still posting as late as 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Passbook — part of the industry’s first ever International Flight History Index — is supported by The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the University of Aberdeen.

Phocuswright’s Survey of Global Travelers has attracted more than 5,000 people around the world. Analysing the data from survey respondents, the company says it gives a sense of where the travel industry stands as we enter 2019.

Travellers tend to plan ahead with larger discretionary spending up by nearly 17% compared to last year.

The survey found that traveling alone is still an option for many travelers.

More than 10% plan to be traveling alone in 2019 and 7% are planning to combine holiday travel with school/vacation travel.

For Millennials this jumps to 17% and 11% respectively.

Phocuswright’s survey found that millennials are the biggest consumers of personal travel history online, spending on average $724.
