Sir Elton John and Ed Sheeran are to perform together on what will be the first ever Christmas special of the reality TV show The Voice.

The pair will sing their version of John’s children’s classic ‘Merry Christmas, Baby’.

It will be broadcast on BBC One on 23 November and fans will also be able to buy it from the BBC online.

Sir Elton, 68, said he was “humbled and honoured” to be recording with Sheeran, 26.

Speaking about the collaboration, Sheeran added: “I’m just so excited that the BBC are doing this. Hopefully, we’ll get to work some more together in the future.

“It’s such a lovely thing to be doing. I think we’ll just be singing about Christmas, just joy.”

The festive episode will be the fourth part of a series of festive shows on BBC One called “Celebrity and Friends Christmas Specials”.

The other celebrities will be announced later.

The BBC said Sir Elton had recorded the festive tracks in his home studio, rather than on location.

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said: “I’m really excited we’re celebrating the magic of Christmas again on BBC One.

“It’s always magical to hear some of the world’s biggest stars singing holiday classics, and I know fans will be in for a treat when Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John join us.

“We know Ed loves Christmas and we hope the BBC will be playing the most magical and loved songs this festive season.”

Sir Elton said he was “humbled and honoured” to be recording the song with Sheeran, adding: “The BBC are only too happy to agree and I’m sure that this is going to be a fantastic song that millions of viewers will enjoy.

“And we’ll get to work some more together in the future.”

The duo, both born in the 1960s, have previously collaborated together with Sir Elton starring in Sheeran’s video for the 2017 hit The A Team.

The pair were also joined by Robbie Williams in September for a special edition of The Circle in London to record ‘Tiny Dancer’.

John, who will perform his shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall from 1 December to 31 January, began his career at 13 as part of the popular dance group Billy Elliot.
